Young Golfer Sets New Record

A junior golfer has become Woodside Golf Club’s youngest ever player to get a hole-in-one.

Holmes Chapel Comprehensive School pupil, Kaleb Brown, 15, was playing in a junior competition at Woodside Golf Club in Cranage on February 16th when he achieved the feat every golfer dreams of.

Kaleb, from Brereton Heath, said:

“I was playing with two friends from school in a competition. I hit the ball and it went straight in. At first, we were all in disbelief until we went over and saw the ball in the hole, then it was complete excitement. We all rang our parents. I haven’t stopped smiling since.”

Kaleb has been playing golf for 18 months and is a member of the thriving junior section at Woodside.

Junior Section Co-ordinator, John Whelan said:

“We were all really happy for Kaleb when we heard, it’s a great achievement and something most of our adult members would love to be able to say they had done.

“We have a really lovely junior section and they are all so supportive of each other so it was nice to see them all congratulate Kaleb.”

Luckily for Kaleb, he didn’t have to follow the tradition of buying the whole clubhouse a drink when you get a hole-in-one.

John said:

“It seemed a bit unfair for Kaleb to buy the clubhouse a drink when he isn’t even old enough to have one himself, so we let him off!”

Kaleb’s not content to rest on his laurels and already has more golfing ambitions.

He said:

“I’d like to get my handicap below 10 and get another hole-in-one.

“Woodside is a really nice course and is very welcoming. Members have always helped and looked out for us as juniors so I’m hoping, with that support, I’ll be able to improve my game even more.”

Woodside Golf Club is family–run club on Knutsford Road in Cranage.

It has been running for 30 years and boasts a 9 hole course, a par 3 course, Footgolf course and a mini golf course.
