Sunday 25th April sees the long-awaited return to Macclesfield’s streets for the Treacle Market. This much-loved monthly event has been on hold since last December, in line with Government advice around Covid.
Despite the green light for outdoor markets for much of 2020, the Treacle Market has been cautious and taken careful steps to avoid bringing large groups of people together. In the latter part of the year they put on ‘Lock Down Larders’ and ‘Tiny Treacles’ and have been waiting patiently whilst being steered by the Government’s Road map out of Covid.
‘We are so heartened to see the determined vaccine roll out, and the significant drop in Covid numbers’ said organiser Jane Munro.
They hope to ease their traders back into business after what has been a very bleak year for many of them. They will be bringing smaller Treacles to Macclesfield on Sunday 25th April and a larger one on 30th May. These will be much needed opportunities for small traders to bring their goods to market for the first time this year and they would be delighted if people would come along to support them.
Treacle will still be a great opportunity to buy something delicious, beautiful or useful from the enticing mix of food, craft and Vintage stalls and exchange some friendly banter with stall holders and fellow shoppers. ‘That’s what markets are all about’ adds Jane.
As previously traders will be wearing masks, cleansing hands and there will be sanitiser available for visitors too in this open air environment. Public safety is Treacle’s priority as always and they will continue to take the sensible precautions they have done throughout the Covid pandemic.
‘All we ask is that Macc shoppers come along with a mask (if you can) and a bag and support our traders and those bricks and mortar Macclesfield shops and cafes that are open too. By spending locally rather than online you will be helping the town get back on it’s feet and those businesses will be deeply grateful that you do.’
