A former Leighton Hospital nurse from Crewe is to appear in a Real Housewives of Cheshire ‘special’ as part of a campaign to create more awareness and get people talking about the menopause.
Karen Mills, who now works for herself as an occupational health specialist, is appearing in an episode where the housewives share their experience of the menopause in a bid to confront the many taboos about the ‘change.’
The mother-of-three girls said: “I met a lady at a networking group in Nantwich who runs the Motherwell menopause café in Crewe and she invited me to be in the ITVBe documentary.
“In my day-to-day role I regularly deal with menopause-related problems and women struggling to remain in work or wanting to leave work altogether.
“That led me to taking part in a documentary with The Real Housewives of Cheshire alongside other women in the North West who have gone or going through the menopause.
“Myself and a group of ladies were filmed with two of the ‘housewives’ at a menopause café in Manchester discussing the issue and then we all attended a photo-shoot to promote the programme and had our hair and make-up done for the pictures.
“The campaign is being promoted on social media as #hotmess and to look the part we were sprayed with water!
“The documentary will be aired on ITVBE on August 8 and 9 at 9pm discussing all things menopause. And I was delighted to be part of it.
“We all need to help break down taboos and get people talking about the difficulties women face.”
Karen, who previously worked as a ward manager at Leighton’s head and neck unit, runs Zen Occupational Health Ltd in Crewe. She helps women overcome issues with the menopause with NLP coaching and advises employers on adjustments they may need at work.
