A local, Cheshire-based property development company who are currently transforming one of Northwich’s historic buildings are set to join the line-up of shops who have already benefited from the Townscape Heritage scheme.
The National Lottery Heritage Fund partnership grant scheme with Cheshire West and Chester Council aims to enhance the quality and visual appearance of shops in High Street and Witton Street, focusing on improvements to the traditional timber-framed buildings that give Northwich its unique character.
Work has already begun on repairing and decorating the interior of 51-53 Witton Street, which previously housed Burton Menswear since 1923, ready to welcome new tenants to the town. With the support of the scheme, architects are designing plans that will see the building’s front elevation restored to its former glory in the coming months, breathing new life into this prominent building at the heart of the town centre.
Cabinet Member for Inclusive Growth, Economy and Regeneration, Councillor Richard Beecham said: “We’re delighted that the developers are not only breathing new life into the interior of this historic building but also the exterior, by taking advantage of the Townscape Heritage scheme.
“At a time when the town centre is emerging from the pandemic and shops, bars and restaurants are re-opening in the town, it’s wonderful to see investment in our town and to be able to welcome new traders, to add to the vibrant retail and leisure offer that currently exists.”
Details about The Townscape Heritage Project, which runs until 31 January 2022, are available on the website - www.northwich-th.co.uk/
