Preparation works for the construction of the Middlewich Eastern Bypass will continue this month.
A six-month programme of advance construction works for the bypass is underway on land west of the railway line off Booth Lane, Middlewich.
The works, which are being carried out by appointed contractor Balfour Beatty, will include the construction of a trial section of the planned bypass so that surveys to monitor ground movement can be carried out to inform the final details of the scheme’s design.
This part of the works is due to begin on 22 May 2023 and last for around six months, with the main works for the scheme expected to begin in spring 2024.
The Middlewich Eastern Bypass – a two-way single carriageway road – will connect a new roundabout junction off Pochin Way in the north to a new roundabout junction to the south, connecting with the A533 Booth Lane.
The 1.6-mile scheme will include a new bridge over the Trent and Mersey Canal and a new bridge over the Sandbach-to-Northwich railway line.
The plans also include a combined cycleway and footway, as part of the council’s continued commitment to encourage active travel and greener transport.
