The Cheshire East Domestic Abuse Partnership is raising awareness of domestic abuse this Valentine’s Day and highlighting how victims can get help.
While Valentine's Day is often seen as a celebration of love, for some men and women in the borough, it will be just another day of enduring abuse.
Shockingly, one in four women in England and Wales will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime. On average, one woman is killed by an abusive partner or ex every five days in England and Wales. The police receive a domestic abuse-related call every 30 seconds.
The new campaign aims to reduce the number of sexual and domestic violence cases and encourage victims to report their abuse. Campaign messages will be displayed on Cheshire East Council’s website and social media, urging victims to contact the Cheshire East Domestic Abuse Hub.
Councillor Carol Bulman, chair of Cheshire East Council’s children and families committee, said:
“Valentine’s Day can be about celebrating love and affection. However, this will sadly not be the case for everyone in Cheshire East. Domestic abuse can affect anyone, at any stage of their life, often without them even recognising it as abuse.
“If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic abuse, please reach out for help.
"Contact the Cheshire East Domestic Abuse Hub at 0300 123 5101, or in an emergency, call 999.
“As partners across Cheshire East, we are committed to ensuring that this message reaches all residents affected by domestic abuse, so they can access the support they need.”
