Despite the current lockdown it is still a good idea to get some daily exercise. A short walk (conforming to Government guidelines) gives you fresh air, exercise and a chance to see our local countryside walking from your door can lead to some new and exciting places!
We spoke to Ned Spencer who has organised a sponsored walk for East Cheshire Hospice for each of the last 3 years This is called Beating the Bounds and the route is the Wilmslow Parish Boundary Ned said:
"Sadly all ECH fund raising events have had to be cancelled. But the local hospice needs our support now more than ever.
So I thought - we should have a Virtual Event! The idea is very simple. We are asking people to:
Do a short walk - conforming to the guidelines!
Dedicate the walk to ECH
Donate a small amount via our Just Giving page"
We asked Ned whether people might get bored walking the same paths each day and were surprised by his answer!
"It is easy to just walk the same paths each day. But why not use this spare time we have to explore?
I visited the Chapel in the Woods on Sunday and took this photograph.
When I posted it on some of the local community pages I got a lot of reaction, typically:
I've lived in Wilmslow for years and never seen this - where is it?
I remember playing there as a child - is it still there?"
So what is Ned suggesting? We asked him and he said:
" It would be really good if people could take part in this virtual event. They could walk part of the BtB route.
Or we have lots of other ideas for walks in Wilmslow.
We are also taking the time to explore other local parish boundaries and have routes for:
Handforth / Alderley Edge / Poynton / Congleton / Macclesfield ..."
We asked him how people can get involved and he replied ....
"It is very easy to take part - Go for a walk and give to ECH!
I can help you with suggested routes - why not visit the chapel in the woods?

Then I can keep you updated on what's happening."
We know that people are being asked to give to other good causes Supporting our local hospice does seem to be a good idea though Please look at how you can get involved and help Ned with this idea You can get more information from the FB page for ECH Supporters https://www.facebook.com/echsupporterswilmslowanddistrict/
Share with your friends and family - encourage them to take part too!
Please remember though that this is a virtual event - not covered by ECH insurance We ask you to conform to the guidelines, take care, be sensible and watch out for others.
