Disability Information Bureau Sets Out Plans

The Disability Information Bureau (DIB) recently updated local MP, David Rutley, on its plans to support people with disabilities and health conditions in our communities.

The last couple of years have been particularly challenging for DIB’s customers and service users, but the team showed David that they are now very much open for business as usual.

The advice and services DIB provides is invaluable as we return to more normal times.

The DIB provides a wide variety of support for those with disabilities and health conditions, which has been essential for individuals over the course of the pandemic. During this time, the team adapted the way they worked so that advice on accessing benefits and welfare rights, could be accessed online and over the phone.

This advice and support continues to be invaluable, as we return to more normal times. DIB is encouraging people back through the door and focusing on supporting people to help build their confidence after periods of social isolation and provide up to date information on employment and volunteering opportunities.

A range of community learning courses and information in areas such as Microsoft Office applications, equality and diversity training and adaptive technology, are also provided through DIB’s Computer Learning Centre. The courses can be accessed in group or 1-2-1 sessions.

The Disability Information Bureau was established in 1993 and is approaching its 30^th year of providing much-needed services to support the needs of the disabled across communities in Cheshire East. Speaking after his meeting, David said, “The Disability Information Bureau has played an important role in our community for many years. I am very grateful to the team to setting out their plans for the future, after the challenges we have faced over the past two years. It is great to see how motivated the staff and volunteers are in working to provide helpful advice and training for the disabled community – they are a real asset to our community.”
