Cheshire East Council is continuing to explore solutions to the ongoing challenges presented by a collapsed culvert and is looking to reopen the road soon, for the benefit of residents.
The council has written to residents of Hobson Street, in Macclesfield, to further update them on the progress towards a lasting solution, to what has been one of the biggest challenges the council’s highways team has faced.
In a letter to residents, the council's highways team says that short-term measures are to be taken to reopen the road, allowing access for residents, while ensuring that the work site is protected. This is planned for mid-November.
The scale of the damage to a very old culvert needs a multi-agency approach. Highways engineers are faced with serious challenges and are working with other utility companies due to the presence of a high-pressure gas pipe and a main drain.
Councillor Craig Browne, Cheshire East Council deputy leader and chair of its highways and transport committee, said: “We continue to work with partner agencies to work out a long-term solution and we will continue to keep the residents informed of our progress.
“We thank the residents for their ongoing support and understanding and I hope that, by reopening the road in the next few weeks, this will at least allow them to gain access to their properties more easily."
The council will continue to update the dedicated page on its website where more information about the extent of the damage and repairs can be viewed.
