Congleton Invited to Mark Armed Forces Week

Residents are invited to join Congleton Town Council and the Congleton Branch of the Royal British Legion for a special flag-raising ceremony to mark the start of Armed Forces Week.

The event will take place at 9am on Monday 22nd June at The Cenotaph, Lawton Street, Congleton, and all members of the community are warmly welcome to attend.

Armed Forces Week is an opportunity for people across the country to show their support and appreciation for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community, including currently serving personnel, service families, veterans and cadets. The week culminates with Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27th June.

The short ceremony will be attended by veterans from the Congleton Branch of the Royal British Legion. Congleton Town Mayor will say a few words to commemorate the occasion and officially mark the beginning of Armed Forces Week.

Cheshire has a long and proud association with the Armed Forces, with military personnel having been based throughout the county for generations. Armed Forces Week provides an important opportunity to recognise the dedication, service and sacrifice of those who serve, or have served, for our town and country.

Congleton Town Mayor, Cllr Suzy Firkin Councillor said:

"Armed Forces Week is a chance for our community to come together and recognise the commitment and sacrifices made by our serving personnel, veterans, cadets and military families. We are proud to support this national event and invite residents to join us at the Cenotaph as we raise the flag and show our appreciation for all those who serve our country."
