Visitors to Winsford Cross will have seen a noticeable new addition at the shopping centre this year – a community cinema showing short films.
Homemade films by artists, animators, students, community groups and amateur film makers are being shown at Cine - Window, a community space which has been created by the town’s lead artist Cath Campbell, as part of the redevelopment of the town centre.
Cath is introducing a new season of films to be shown at Cine - Window, which take a varied and sideways look at Winsford’s history as a salt town.
Winsford lead artist Cath Campbell said: “Cine - Window is set up for showcasing, nurturing and inspiring film making in Winsford town centre. I am fascinated by the history of Winsford, in particular that it is home to the country’s oldest working salt mine.
“This inspired my new ‘film poem’ ‘A Song for Lots Wife’, which will be shown at the Cine - Window alongside a great mix of films that also explore Winsford’s relationship to salt.”
The films are made by local school children, Middlewich Round Table, Winsford’s resident film-maker Mark Curzon, Cath Campbell, and artist Liam Hopkins who made the sculptures in the park.
Councillor Louise Gittins, Leader of Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “The Cine - Window is a creative and inspiring attraction at Winsford Cross and has attracted lots of attention in the last few months.
“The new season of films will continue to attract attention and tell the story of the town’s history. Take this chance to come and enjoy these short films while you can and support the creative talent we have in this area.”
The Cine - Window is open 9-5.30pm seven days a week.
